WHY ROMNEY
Romney is an old traditional English breed from Kent. It is bred all over the world.
No buildings
Romney is perfect to be on pasture all the year. It can stay frosty winter as well as the wet one.
Calm behaviour
Sheep do not tend to escape outside fences. They do not jump high. Rams are not offensive against humans.
Adaptability
It can prosper in allmost all climatic conditions found in CZ after sufficient acclimatisation.
Undemanding
Romney demand for its prosperity nothing but fresh water, salt, mineral lick, pasture, and hay during winter. They do not need fine pasture and quality hay – their large stomach and outstanding nutrition conversion enables them to use even low quality food, unsafficient for most sheep breed.
Resistance
The breed is known for its inherited resistance to foot rot and parasites.
Good mothers
Ewes mostly lamb easily, with no assistance needed. Lambs are very vital, since their third day you can hardly catch them. Amount of mother milk is perfect.
Meat production
Lambs grow fast, they offten weight over 30 kg in 100 days. They are finished at around 45 kg.
